Eyebrow Transplant Recovery: The Complete Guide

Eyebrow transplant recovery has specific characteristics that differ from scalp and beard transplant recovery, primarily because the brow area is more visible, more sensitive, and more precisely noticed in social interactions than other hair restoration sites. Here is the complete guide.

Immediately post-procedure: the brow area will be swollen and tender. Small crusts form over each implantation site — at the density required for good brow coverage, the area can look quite crusted for the first week. Most patients plan not to be in public-facing situations for five to seven days post-procedure.

Swelling: gravity means that swelling from eyebrow transplants often extends to the periorbital area — the eyelids may appear slightly puffy on day one and two. This is expected and temporary. Sleeping with the head elevated reduces the extent of periorbital swelling.

Week one to two: follow the prescribed washing protocol, which is gentler for the brow area than for scalp washing protocols. Avoid makeup on the brow area entirely in the first two weeks. The brow area requires the same no-touching, no-scratching rules as the scalp recipient area.

Weeks three to eight: the shed phase. Transplanted brow hairs shed and the area goes quiet. This is expected and reversed as new growth begins from months three to four.

Maintenance: transplanted eyebrow hairs retain the growth characteristics of their scalp origin — they grow continuously rather than stopping at a brow hair’s natural length. This means regular trimming is required to maintain the brow at the desired length. Most patients find this requires trimming every two to three weeks once the result has matured.
