Restore density, fill patchy areas or create a beard that was never there — surgeon-designed at Harley Street
Designed by DrQ and performed by our specialist surgical team at Harley Street Hospital, 19 Harley Street. FUE grafts placed with precision for natural direction, density and permanent growth.
A beard transplant uses the same FUE technique as a scalp hair transplant, harvesting individual follicular units from a donor area — typically the back of the scalp or neck — and implanting them precisely into the beard area.
The procedure can restore density in patchy areas, define the outline of a beard that was naturally sparse, or create a full beard where there was previously little to no growth. Because the grafts are your own permanent hair follicles, the result grows, behaves and looks exactly like natural beard hair.
DrQ personally designs the beard shape and places every graft — direction, angle and depth all determine whether the result looks natural or obvious. There is no delegation to technicians at any stage.
Gaps in the moustache, chin, cheeks or jaw line that do not fill naturally.
Beard grafts can restore growth to areas where scarring has prevented follicle development.
Genetically limited beard growth that does not respond to medication or time.
Sufficient scalp or beard donor hair to achieve the desired result. Assessed at photo review stage.
A beard transplant at Harley Street Hairline typically takes 3–6 hours depending on graft count. Here is what the day involves.
You arrive at Harley Street Hospital, 19 Harley Street. Consent is reconfirmed, pre-procedure photos are taken and the design plan is reviewed with DrQ.
DrQ personally marks the beard outline and target density zones. Shape, angle and natural growth direction are planned precisely for your facial structure.
Follicular units are extracted individually from the donor area — typically the scalp — using a micro-punch under local anaesthetic. The donor area heals with no linear scar.
Each graft is placed individually at the correct angle and direction for natural-looking beard growth. Single hairs are used at the edges for a natural outline; denser follicles fill the centre.
You leave with full written aftercare instructions. Mild redness and small scabs resolve within 7–10 days. Most patients return to work within 3–5 days.
Growth is documented at 1, 6 and 12 months. You have direct access to DrQ throughout your recovery and growth period.
Small scabs form around each graft and shed naturally. Mild redness in the beard area is normal. Avoid touching or shaving the area.
The transplanted hairs shed — this is normal and expected. The follicles remain in place and will re-enter the growth phase.
New beard hairs begin to emerge. Growth is gradual and may be fine at first. Most patients see visible improvement from month 4 onwards.
The full density and character of your beard transplant is visible at 12 months. The hair is permanent and can be trimmed, shaped and shaved normally.

Yes — because the grafts are your own hair follicles, the result grows, behaves and feels exactly like natural beard hair. Placement angle and direction are critical to a natural look; DrQ designs each zone individually rather than placing grafts uniformly.
Yes — once fully healed (typically after 3 months), you can shave, trim and style the beard normally. The transplanted hairs respond to shaving exactly as natural beard hair does.
Grafts are typically taken from the back of the scalp, where the hair characteristics most closely resemble beard hair. In some cases, the sides of the scalp or existing beard hair can also be used as a donor source.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic, so you will not feel pain during extraction or implantation. Some patients experience mild soreness and tightness in the donor area for 24–48 hours afterwards, which resolves quickly with standard pain relief.
Most patients see meaningful beard growth from month 4. The full result — in terms of density and character — is visible at 12 months. This timeline is the same as scalp hair transplant recovery.
