Hair Loss at 30: What It Means and What to Do

Hair loss that becomes noticeable in your thirties is the most common presentation seen in hair restoration clinics. By this point, many patients have spent several years monitoring the situation, trying various products, and finally reaching a point where they want a definitive assessment and a clear plan.

The thirties are actually a good time to address hair loss from a surgical planning perspective. The pattern has usually declared itself sufficiently to give a surgeon a clear picture of where the loss is heading, while enough time remains to use medical therapy to slow further progression and preserve surrounding native hair around any transplanted areas.

If you have not yet tried medical treatment, this is the time to do so — particularly finasteride, which is most effective when there are still follicles in the miniaturisation phase responding to DHT. The goal of medical therapy is to stabilise the pattern so that any surgical work you invest in now is preserved for as long as possible.

For patients who have stable loss, adequate donor supply, and realistic expectations, the thirties are an appropriate time to consider hair transplant surgery. Most reputable surgeons are more comfortable operating on patients in this age bracket than on those in their early twenties, precisely because the pattern is better understood.

Book a thorough consultation rather than relying on online quotes or assessments. Understanding your specific pattern, donor reserve, hair characteristics, and goals takes time — and those variables, not a graft calculator, should drive the treatment plan.
