Beard Hair Transplant UK: Everything You Need to Know

For men who struggle with patchy, sparse, or absent beard hair, a beard transplant offers a permanent solution. Using the same FUE technique as scalp hair restoration, follicles are harvested from the back of the scalp and implanted precisely in the beard zone to create natural, lasting growth.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Beard transplants suit men who have:

  • Patchy beard growth with bald spots
  • Complete absence of beard hair due to genetics
  • Scarring within the beard area (from acne, injury, or surgery)
  • A desire to add density, shape, or extend the beard area

How Many Grafts Are Required?

Graft requirements vary by goal. Filling small patches may require 200–500 grafts. Creating a full beard from scratch in a patient with little natural growth may require 2,000–4,000 grafts depending on the area covered — full face, goatee, or jawline only.

The Procedure

Donor hair is harvested from the back of the scalp under local anaesthetic. Grafts are then implanted in the beard area at precise angles to replicate natural beard growth direction. The procedure typically takes 4–8 hours depending on graft count. Most patients are comfortable throughout.

Recovery and Results

Small crusts form at the implantation sites and fall away within 7–10 days. Transplanted hairs shed at 3–4 weeks — this is normal. New beard growth begins at 3–4 months and fills in progressively. Full results are seen at 12 months. The transplanted beard can be shaved, trimmed, and styled exactly like natural beard hair.

Choosing a UK Specialist

Beard transplant requires specialist expertise in facial aesthetics as well as transplant technique. The angle and direction of implantation is more complex in the facial zone than the scalp. Choose a surgeon with documented experience in facial hair restoration and a portfolio of genuine patient results.
