Receiving quotes from multiple hair transplant clinics can be confusing — not least because the pricing structures are often incomparable. Some quote per graft, others per session, and the inclusions vary enormously. Knowing how to read a quote protects you from unexpected costs and makes genuine price comparisons possible.
The first question to ask is whether the quote is fully inclusive. A per-graft price of £2.00 sounds straightforward until you find that anaesthetic, medications, post-operative dressing, and follow-up appointments are charged separately. Always ask for a written breakdown of exactly what is included and what is not before comparing clinics.
Ask how the graft count estimate was derived. An estimate given without examining your scalp — whether online or during a very brief assessment — is not reliable. Graft counts can only be accurately estimated after direct examination of hair density, calibre, and the recipient area dimensions.
Ask what happens if more grafts are required on the day than estimated. Some clinics charge for additional grafts at a premium; others include a buffer in their planning. Understanding this avoids unpleasant surprises on the day of surgery.
Finally, ask about the follow-up policy. A responsible clinic includes post-operative reviews — at minimum a check at one to two weeks and a review at six and twelve months. Clinics that charge extra for follow-ups, or offer only a single post-operative appointment, are not providing the standard of care that the procedure warrants.
